In legal dispositions, timestamps can also be useful when needing to refer to a specific part of a transcription. Using a timestamp speeds up the location process and allows the researcher to accurately understand what was said. Was the comment sarcastic? Was the sentence stated as fact? Often you can only tell through intonation in the voice. ![]() However, timestamps are also useful in audio-to-text transcriptions as well.Ī researcher can use timestamps to help them jump to a specific point in an audio file so that they can listen to an interviewer’s tone. Timestamps are often cited as the most important tool in a transcription for video editors and videographers. This is a substantial time saver! How Else Can Timestamps Be Useful? Timestamps on a transcription synchronise with the timecode in a video or audio file, allowing an editor to quickly identify the content they want included in the final piece without having to view or listen to the footage in order to make edits. Usually timestamps are inserted in the format where HH, MM, SS are hours, minutes and seconds from the beginning of the audio or video file. Timestamps are tags within a transcription that identifies the exact point in an audio or video where the given text was spoken. Well it’s likely that they use video-to-text transcriptions that include timestamps to help expedite the process. Scrub the video and you should see the transcript text appear in the "Canvas" window.Have you ever wondered how filmmakers and video production editors can take hours of video content and condense it down to a 3 minute clip in such a short period of time? Drag this down to the "Timeline" window into the "V1" row.Ĩ. You should see a new item in your "Browser" window called something like "Template_InqScribe".ħ. You can of course use an existing project, but we're assuming this is a test.Ħ. In the "Import XML." window, select Destination "(Create New Project)". ![]() Once you have the export.xml file, you're ready to import it into FCP.Ĥ. If you don't see it, the file may not have been exported properly. Look in the same directory as your InqScribe transcript file for the "export.xml" file (or elsewhere if you renamed it or saved it to a different place). Click on the "Export" button to export the XML.ħ. You can also rename the file with that dialog.Ħe. OPTIONAL: If you want to save the exported file somewhere other than the same directory as your InqScribe transcript, click on the "Choose" button and select another directory. You can call the file whatever you want.Ħd. OPTIONAL: If you want to call the exported file something other than "export.html," change the "Target:" field. In the "XML Template" section, click on the "Use Default" button to use the default InqScribe FCP template. Make sure "Format" is set to "Final Cut Pro XML" (it should be by default)Ħb. Use InqScribe’s “Save Subtitled QuickTime Movie…” feature (in the “File” menu) to test your subtitles. If you have timecode errors in your transcript, you may have problems importing into FCP.
